Port of Malaysia
The port city of Klang, located in the Malaysian state of Selangor and crossed by the river of the same name, is also the most important port in Malaysia. Klang Port maintains trade relations with more than 120 countries and more than 500 ports around the world.
Every year, around 700,000 passengers are handled on more than 1800 ships
The Port Klang Authority is responsible for operating and managing the port. More than 150 million tons of cargo from 15,100 cargo ships that call at the most important port of Malaysia are handled there annually. This includes around 130 million tonnes of container freight, 9.1 million tonnes of general cargo, 7.5 million tonnes of dry bulk and 5.6 million tonnes of liquid bulk. In addition, more than 700,000 passengers on more than 1800 ships are handled annually in Klang. Port Klang has a total of 54 berths with a total length of 11,700 metres. The port can accommodate ships from six to 130,000 DWT. Twelve berths with a total length of 5279 metres handle containerised shipments and have a capacity for ships from 40,000 to 160,000 DWT. The most important port for Malaysia has three container terminals designed for a capacity of 8.4 million TEU.
Around 8 million tonnes of liquid bulk goods are produced in Port Klang
Also, around 8 million tonnes of liquid bulk goods are produced in Port Klang, including refined vegetable oils, chemicals and petroleum products from Malaysia. Important bulk goods such as fertilisers, wheat, corn, sugar and feed and soya flour are imported there. Other important harbours in Malaysia are Penang, Port Dickson, Sandakar and Bintulu.
