Information on ports in Israel

Israel destination for sea transport

The most important port in Israel is the port of Haifa, also called Haifa Port. The main port is located on the northern coast of the city. The eastern container terminal is located at Hof Schemen. In the Kishon area there are transhipment facilities, a fishing port, sailing clubs, shipyards, chemical terminals and a hinterland container depot.

Port of Haifa is on the most modern level

The Port of Haifa is state of the art, with a qualified workforce and the latest equipment, which is among the most modern of its kind in the world. It is also the main container terminal in Israel. Around 65% of all containers are handled in this port. The port of Haifa is also an important hub for container handling in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. In total, Israel's most important container terminal has a container throughput of 200,000 TEU per year. The port of Haifa also handles around 1 million tonnes of liquid chemicals, 900,000 tonnes of bulk goods, 2.4 million tonnes of grain and around three million tonnes of oil per year. The Port of Haifa also has special facilities for handling and storing chemicals at its northern and southern terminals.

Up to three tankers can be refuelled simultaneously

On the northern side of the Kishon area, up to three tankers can be handled simultaneously at the terminal, provided there is sufficient distance from residential areas. An underground pipe system enables the delivery of substances such as GPM, methanol, MTBE and pesticides. A computer-controlled fire protection system ensures constant safety, which is also provided by trained specialist personnel.
