Multimodal Logistics from A to Z
Wind turbines are not lightweight. Not to mention the dimensions. When it comes to moving rotor blades with a length of over 80 meters or tower segments weighing tons safely from A to B, various challenges have to be overcome. This starts with the fact that there is no standard procedure for transport and ends with the fact that everything has already been put in place at the destination.
As part of an international logistics network, we have local experts in every region who are very familiar with the local conditions. Customs, authorities and infrastructure - they know every special feature. This gives you the certainty that there will be no unpleasant surprises at any point in the transport chain.
Processes have to be coordinated, discussions held and parts loaded safely. It's a little like a precision clockwork. Every gear has to mesh perfectly, every step has to be precisely timed. What sounds like a mammoth project is something we put into practice every day. Would you like to know how we get your wind turbine parts safely to their destination? Of course you want that - we'll show you.
Special transport of wind turbines: The journey begins
Planning the transport of rotor blades and tower segments precisely is a logistical masterpiece. Even the route to the port has a few pitfalls that need to be considered: bridge heights, curve radii, road loads, to name just a few.
And did we already mention that you won't get very far with standard equipment?
To ensure the integrity of your goods, you need:
- Telescopic semi-trailers for rotor blades
- Self-propelled modular transporters for tower segments
- Low loaders for machine houses and generators
- Support vehicles and police escort
As you can see, the transport of a wind turbine cannot simply be sketched out on the drawing board. It requires years of experience and a well-established network. Instead of investing valuable time in transport planning, Transway takes over the complete transport coordination. This allows you to concentrate on the things that are really important.
By sea freight to the port of destination
Rotor blades, tower segments or nacelles. It is not what is transported that counts, but that it has arrived safely at the seaport. Here, experienced and specially trained teams load the wind power components onto the ship.
There is no one right loading option. Our portfolio contains the right technology for your requirements:
- Break bulk loading for complete wind turbines
- Flat rack containers for dismantled system components
- Heavy-lift special ships for large components
- RoRo loading for mobile crane technology
Transport to the wind farm
The ship has docked, the vehicles are loaded. Time for the last leg: transport to the final location. The team on site knows the local peculiarities and ensures that all parts arrive at the assembly site at the right time.
The tried and tested special transporters are also used on this last leg. With the same precision as at the start of the journey, the wind power components reach their final destination - ready for assembly.
Why you should work with us
Rotor blades need special fastening systems, tower segments need precise load distribution, generators need vibration-free transport. With Transway, you know you have a sea freight forwarder on your side who can draw on a wealth of experience in the transport of wind turbines.
Just as no two wind turbines are the same, each route has its own special features. Every meter of the route is analyzed in advance: narrow passages, bridge heights, curve radii, ground conditions. The right technology is available - equipment and processes are tailored precisely to your requirements.
From Gelnhausen to São Paulo: partners spread across the globe who know the central ports and their special features. They know how to save time in customs clearance and efficiently meet local requirements. For you, this means: fast processing instead of long waiting times.
When will my goods be picked up? And when will they actually arrive at the new location? Your permanent contact person knows. You are always in the know, while we proactively coordinate every transport step.
One-off transport or long-term cooperation? You decide
Short-term Solutions
If unexpected transport requirements arise during the construction of a wind farm, every minute counts. Experienced special transport teams and a global partner network are not put off by even short-term requests. Your wind turbine components will reach their destination on time.
Long-term strategy
Wind turbine transport is not a one-off thing for you; you plan regular tours. Especially when different components have to be delivered just-in-time, every aspect needs to be well thought out. The choice of transport, the optimal route, complete tracking documentation. A well-rehearsed system that proves its worth again and again with every transport.

FAQs on wind turbine transport
No transport without paperwork. This is not a small amount when transporting wind turbines internationally by sea freight. The goods being transported, the country of origin or destination, customs requirements, trade agreements or other specific agreements - the documents required depend on various factors.
The most common are:
• The bill of lading as the central document for sea freight
• A detailed commercial invoice with all information on the components
• The certificate of origin for customs clearance
• A precise packing list with weights and dimensions
• An insurance certificate for transport protection
• Specific customs documents depending on the destination and country of origin
A flat rate for transporting wind turbines would be unreliable. The dimensions and weight of the components, the route chosen, the type of loading and your time requirements - all of this is taken into account in the calculation. For example: Smaller components travel inexpensively in containers. Rotor blades, on the other hand, require special loading techniques.
The situation is similar here to that of the documents. In other words, several variables come into play. Faster or cheaper route? Direct connection or transshipment? To name just a few. Whether there are many factors or not, you can be sure of one thing: whatever your plan may be, we will choose the transport option and schedule so that it fits seamlessly into your project.
Nothing that should keep you awake at night. Thanks to the latest communication technology, we are directly connected to seaports and customs offices (DAKOSY, BHT, ATLAS) and are always informed of the current status. This allows us to identify possible delays early on, react quickly and plan an alternative route if necessary.
